Massapequa is located on the South Shore of Long Island, 38 miles from downtown Manhattan. The hamlet has waterfront property along South Oyster Bay and canals. Massapequa Lake and State Preserve's 423 acres offer recreational activities with a bicycle path and Greenbelt hiking trail.
Massapequa was a resort area until the 20's, when developers turned vacant land into housing subdivisions. Most of the housing is 50 to 60 years old, on small, manicured lots. Prices climb as properties approach the water.
